About Lesson
  • Recognize that “help” has different meaning across cultures
  • Notice the cultural influences in your own life and how they affect your work & approach
  • Be open to learning about cultural traditions and beliefs.  Identify strengths from the person’s cultural background and use them as resources
  • Remember – loss is a universal experience, having a profound effect on our lives, regardless of our differences
  • Cultural humility is a lifelong practice of self-reflection and learning that helps people understand and respect other cultures. It involves acknowledging one’s own biases and limitations, and working to create respectful relationships with others. 

Some ways you can practice cultural humility:

  • Recognize that “help” has different meaning across cultures.
  • Notice the cultural influences in your own life and how they affect your work.
  • Be creative and explore alternatives.  Be prepared to take risks and make mistakes.
  • Be open to learning about cultural traditions and beliefs.  Identify strengths from the person’s cultural background and use them as resources.
  • Remember – loss is a universal experience, having a profound effect on our lives, regardless of our differences.
