With age comes the likelihood of losing family members and friends to death. 

Older adults often have many major losses within a short time. For example, an older adult who loses a partner may suffer many losses, including financial security, a best friend, and social contacts. 

The average life expectancy for women in Canada is 83 and for men is 79.

Children of seniors may be part of a sandwich generation that is dealing with the needs of their own children at the same time as caring for an aging parent. According to Statistics Canada, nearly half (47%) of adults in their 40’s and 50’s have a parent age 65 or older and are still actively supporting their children.
